Things I Forgot to Bring to Prague

This next Wednesday marks the end of my third week here in Prague. It is so crazy to think that I have only been here about three weeks - it actually already feels like a few months! Not to brag, but I can use the tram by myself to get to school, the mall, and the supermarket. #Proud.

I love the idea of public transportation, and enjoyed my brief use of it in Canada, but being in Czech has taught me a true appreciation for it. It's so crazy to think that hopping on to a different tram or metro can take you to a completely different place of the city, and open the door to so many more new experiences - right now, the motto for the trip is "Whoops, well this will be an adventure!"

Hindsight and I have a very passionate love/hate relationship. Sometimes things go okay and other times, they really don't. Here's a quick list of things I sort of forgot to bring to Prague, partially because of lack of research and also because well, my suitcase can't weigh more than fifty pounds (Oops?).

Hopefully if you're planning on traveling to Prague, or any other part of Europe really soon, these tips can help you avoid what I had to deal with!

1. Rain Coat/Windbreaker | Every single person I talked to who went on this trip last year complained about the huge heat wave they had - and of course, guess what kind of weather was waiting for me when I got here? Lots and lots of rain and wind. I was pretty stubborn for the first three days, but after walking back to my hotel drenched from head to toe, I knew I needed to buy a coat of some sort. I ended up visiting the Patagonia store here in Prague and getting this piece of amazingness. I started to feel a little buyer's remorse as soon as I was out of the store, but over the past week it completely disappeared! It has been so windy and rainy, buying this jacket was the best decision I have made on this trip so far!

2. Guidebooks | I am usually that girl, the one who bought three different books and has everything she wants to do mapped out down to the perfectly dotted I's and crossed T's. But for some reason, I wanted to try something different on this trip: when I was sitting on my bed with my laptop trying to figure out which books to order from Amazon, I decided to close out the window and try my hand at being a little more spontaneous.

Even still right now, I'm not too sure how I feel about this one. Naturally, the girls I began to gravitate towards were the ones with the guidebooks, and we've definitely had a lot of fun, but it was a nice little change to not be the one to say "Okay, today we are doing this at this time, this at this time, this at this time, etc." - it was actually a nice to let someone else take the reins a little bit and just take in this beautiful city.

3. Bug Spray | This one makes me really angry/sad. I had two bottles of bug spray in my luggage the night before I flew out and I only took them out because the few people I was messaging that night all told me that it would just be a waste of space. Well, I guess if it weren't for the rain it wouldn't be as bad, but considering my few experiences down by the river and at the park last week, the bugs here (and well, everywhere else in the world) are just gross.

4. 2GIS | This app is more something I didn't know about but has quite literally saved my life. The easiest way to describe it is like a Google Maps that doesn't need WiFi. It's still fairly new and developing, but Prague just so happened to be on the list of cities already on there. It does everything from restaurant recommendations to the floor plans of the shopping centers to helping you figure out what metro stop to get off at.
