A New Year's Eve Miracle

This morning I woke up to a miracle! For the first time in the ten years that I've lived here, I have never seen it actually get down to 2°C and snow here! (I believe it hailed in some parts of the city a few years ago, but that's not what this was!) Just thought I'd share a few pictures of this little miracle!

How's the weather where you are? Do you love snow? Everyone here was bundled up but had huge smiles on their faces - what a way to end 2014, huh?

A Visit to the Cake Boss Las Vegas

Very, very glad I found the bakery! My little sister and I had chocolate rugelach for breakfast and now my stomach feels a bit spoiled! Although this technically crosses off my visit to a Carlo's Bakery, I definitely still want to visit the one in New York if I ever have the chance! *fingers crossed*

A Weekend Trip to Las Vegas

This past weekend, my family decided to take a quickie trip to beautiful Las Vegas! We live really close to Sin City, and we've been known to frequent it to visit family and (of course) shopping! During our first year after we moved to Arizona my family was taking day trips almost every weekend! Here are a few photos of what we did on our little mini vacation, enjoy!

The ceilings of the Palazzo are painted so beautifully, I couldn't resist taking some pictures of them! There was even a really nice man playing the accordion - talk about ambiance!

One of the things I love about Las Vegas in general is how there is so many different things in one area (i.e. the Strip!). You can take a quick walk down and visit many of the different hotels. The Wynn is right across the street from the Palazzo (and the mall just a kitty corner away!) so we thought we'd take a little walk since it had been a while since we'd done so.

Sure, I'd love to take a ride!

These Chanel boots are just beautiful, and I just loved how they are displayed.

I loved Popeye when I was growing up, so seeing this just made me squeal!

Gotta keep up that coffee fix!

I have a very eclectic music taste, in part due to my dad. I love country and classic rock about as much as I love pop and alternative. The show was interesting, but as I warned on my Instagram, it is a show intended for mature audiences - the production overall is pretty historically accurate, so I wouldn't recommend bringing the little ones to see it!

Here are just a few pictures from me crossing off one of my little life bucketlist items: visiting a Carlo's Bakery and buying cupcakes! I'll put up an extra little post with the rest of the pictures - I just couldn't resist because the shop was just too cute!

Don't they all look scrumptious?

Candid photo from when my dad made fun of my height in comparison to this tree.

Merry Christmas!

I hope everyone had an amazing holiday! Whether you celebrate religiously or recreationally (not sure that's the right word choice!), I only wish that your day was filled with love, laughter, and happiness. My day was relaxing yet still a little busy, but that's just the way I like it. Hopefully all of you were on Santa's "Nice" list and received everything you needed/wanted. Sometimes, you even get a few surprises - 'tis the season!

"Merry Christmas to all, and to all a good night!"

Deck the House - It's Christmas Eve!

It's Christmas Eve! As promised, here's a peek inside our holiday decorating!

This year my mom opted for a gold theme instead of red and gold.

This is an ornament we bought on our trip to Hawaii this past summer.

My mom just thought it'd be festive to put extra ornaments on the chandelier.

This dog ornament is actually from the year we adopted Sammie!

My mom ordered these personalized stockings from Pottery Barn and I love them!

"Hang a shining star upon the highest bow"

Sammie's so excited that she's waiting by her stocking for Santa to come!

Have an amazing Christmas Eve! Don't forget to leave cookies out for Santa and go to bed in your cutest pjs! I hope you have a wonderful holiday full of love and laughter, and may your stockings be heavy with goodies from Santa.

Christmas Eve Eve Fun!

Happy Christmas Eve Eve! What did you do today? I hope you had a wonderfully, fantastic day because, well, you deserve it and CHRISTMAS IS IN TWO DAYS!

#CANYOUFEELTHEEXCITEMENT

Today was pretty busy for me! My little sister had soccer practice bright and early this morning, so I woke up around 8am and since I couldn't go back to sleep, I grabbed myself a nice bowl of cereal and started tinkering around with the coding for my blog again. I'm really happy with it right now and I think aside from just trying to learn more about coding in general (we did some in my CIS class this past semester, but I didn't really understand all of it).

How I felt during the whole programming section

My little sister brought one of her friends home and we all sat around watching season one of White Collar to commemorate the ending of such an amazing show. If you haven't seen it yet, I highly recommend it! Matt Bomer is amazing, and hey all you Saved by the Bell fans, Tiffany Amber Thiessen is pretty great throughout the series as Peter Burke's wife!

Just the slightest hint of sass

Neither of my siblings nor my sister's friend had seen The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part One, so I took them to go see it! I definitely did not mind watching it a second time. I love re-watching movies I love, not only because I am so invested in the story, but also because I find people's reactions really interesting. Both my sister and her friend had read the book series, so it was nice to have a conversation about their opinions on the adaptation from book to movie.

Just a general opinion on things

It has been a long time since I've seen a movie back here at home, so I had completely forgotten that a certain movie theater gives a free round of bowling with every movie ticket! We had time, so after the movie, we went up to the lanes and bowled!

#MURICA

I thought a green ball would be quite appropriate to match my Christmas sweater!

Today was a generally nice day, so I decided to close it out by *finally* wrapping up all of the presents I bought for my family and friends! I love Target's wrapping paper section because there are just so many cute designs to choose from, and for a reasonable price, you're getting A LOT of wrapping paper! By the end of my wrapping, I still had half of my roll left!

I'm so excited to give everyone their presents!

To make the end of my day that much sweeter, I checked the mail and found out I had received the gift I ordered for my Big (I really wanted to post a picture of it because I love it so much, but I'm not really sure if she ever looks at my Instagram or this blog so I really wanted to cover all of my bases) as well as the custom gloves I ordered from Lilly Southern and a custom shirt I ordered from Monogrammed Is Better!

When I saw the gloves could be customized, I knew I had to get #SunDevil colors!

I LOVE this shirt, but the pocket makes me feel "LOVE" is not a strong enough word!

How was your Christmas Eve's Eve? Do you and your family have any traditions for this day specifically? I'd love to hear about them!

Freshman Five: Last Minute Gifts on a Budget

Image via

Christmas is right around the corner - literally! Although I was able to dodge the bullet, I have heard from quite a number of people I know that some of their packages have been delayed or lost in the mail. Rather than simply giving a card to say "Oops, sorry your present will be late!", there are a few smaller, alternative presents that can be thrown together relatively quickly. I'm not going to lie, I've used these ideas as main presents before, but mostly because I found things that just really fit their personalities and I couldn't pass up the opportunity to get it for them.

Event-in-a-Basket // Whether for Movie Night or Girls' Night, putting together an event-in-a-basket is an easy gift that everyone is sure to love because they are so easy to personalize. I decided to do one of these for one of my best friends this year because I just couldn't find/find out one thing she would really like. I got her some of her favorite seasonal sweets, quite the variety of nail polishes, and a few little extra touches. This is really a great gift in general - for Theatre Geek's 18th birthday, I gave him a "You're an Adult Now" basket.

Mini Stockings // I love stocking stuffers. The little Target aisles filled with holiday things? I live there. In junior high and high school, I would get mini stockings, glittery Chinese boxes, or adorable mugs and fill them with little random (and still fabulous) things. I usually bought two or three types of individually-wrapped candies, stickers, some party blowers, festive pens or pencils, and once I even found the most adorable colored paper clips! There are just so many possibilities, that making these presents is always a blast.

Memories and Mementos // I'm a huge advocate for meaningful presents; they are the first type of presents I try to look for. On a smaller, last-minute scale, there are plenty of options, just look for something that they may have mentioned once or twice, or that represents a treasured memory. One of my favorites is making a picture collage from pictures taken either over the years (or that year specifically) and framing it. The first time I gave one of these was when one of my friends was moving and she absolutely loved it.

Amusement and Laughter // I'm not exactly sure why, but every time I think of the words amusement and laughter, I think of board games. When I was growing up, my family wasn't very big on board games, but I really love them! Give a friend or family member a gift that is sure to make them feel like a little kid again and laugh like crazy. If there's time after all the presents are open, them may even crack open their new game and voila, entertainment and bonding. My personal favorites are Monopoly, Clue, and Scrabble, but there are so many different ones out there.

Essentials // Essentials are, well, essential. They are fun and usually easy to find, and everyone always loves them! The options are endless from wallets to scarves to graphic shirts, etc. I do have to say, however, that my favorite one to give and receive are socks. Now don't leave me just yet - have you seen all of the crazy socks out there? I recently found out they make socks with prints of basketball players on them and instantly grabbed a pair for a sporty friend of mine. An added bonus is that because a lot of people don't realize what great presents they can be, the socks you give could be the most creative present they get that season!

Christmas is a time of giving and appreciating all of the people and blessings in our lives. It's not all about the presents, but more about what they mean. Hope some of these ideas are helpful!
